Daniel Island Park Day - Daniel Island SC

Daniel Island is having a FREE event from 11-5 on Saturday October 11, 2008. It is the Island's annual Park Day. It is a fun fall day of music, games and food for the entire family.

All proceeds will go towards over 20 non-profit organizations. In 2007, this event raised over 45,000 for over 35 different causes. Although the event is free there are some nominal charges for food and other activities. Parking is free and there is also a free shuttle bus at exit 24 off of I526, just follow the signs for the event parking.

The ages for the event are 7 - 14 with a $30 entry fee which includes a race shirt. The Children will have the opportunity to compete against other children in a kid specific sprint triathlon with different distances for different age’s groups. Family Circle Cup



2008 is the Family Cup 's 35th anniversary. This tennis tournament for 28 years was played in Hilton Head, SC. However in 2001, The Family Circle Cup decided to make a move to Charleston, SC. Family Circle magazine is the first title sponsor to partner with city and county municipalities to build a tennis facility of this stature. This state-of-the-art facility not only serves as the new home for one of the premier events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but also provides residents of greater Charleston access to one of the finest tennis facilities in the southeast.
Past champions Of the Family Circle Cup are some of the biggest names in the history of Women's tennis including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, and Justine Henin. With this year prize at almost 2 million dollars, top tennis players will make there journey to the Charleston, South Carolina area.
Some of this years players will include Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Anna Chakvetadze and many more.
The tournament begins April 12-20th and includes autograph signing, a fashion show sponsored by Lacoste, tennis demonstrations, fireworks display and a so much more. There are day and night matches and ticket are available through Ticketmaster.
